Has My Relationship with My Brothers and Sisters in Christ Improved in the Past Year?

As you begin closing out 2014 and start focusing on the year ahead, this is an excellent question to ask yourself. If the answer is yes then you need to focus on what you did to cause this and continue doing it. If your answer is no, I would like to offer a couple of simple suggestions you can try so that at the end of 2015 you may be able to answer yes to the question of improved with relationships with your brothers and sisters in Christ

1)Make it a point to know the brethren by name
So many times in our lives we find ourselves speaking about members of the local congregation and we find ourselves unable to call them by name and we rely on describing them by their physical attributes or other things like how many family members they have etc. This should not be. This is an indication we do not know and love them as we should
Consider the words of Jon 3 Jn 1:14 “14 but I hope to see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face. Peace to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.”

2) Get ahold of a local directory and make it a point to connect a couple of names and faces each week until you know them all. This is not a difficult task, it just requires a little effort as all truly important things do

3) Have a different member in your home once a month. The Bible clearly teaches we are to show hospitality. Consider the following passages
Rom 12:13 “13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.”
1 Pet 4:9 “9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling”
Keep in mind, it doesn’t have to be a major, formal event, it can be as simple as just having someone over to sit and talk or play a board game. The excuse I can’t cook or I’m not a great hostess just doesn’t work

4) If you are unable to have others in your home, make it a point to go out and visit them homes of your fellow brethren at least once a month

These simple things will help you to become closer to your brothers and sisters in Christ and more like God would have you to be.
