Today the world is focused on what they believe the idea of “Love” is. I can’t help but think that in a lot of ways the world has no idea what “Love” truly is. The thought flowing through most people’s minds today is the idea of romantic love. This is only a part of what “Love” is.
As you consider the idea of “Love” I want you to consider what our Creator had to say on the issue. 1 Jn 4:8 tells us that God is love. Perhaps the most famous verse in the Bible, Jn 3:16 talks about just how much God loves his creation. When you look in these passages in their proper context, ask yourself does the love the world talks about today look at all like this. It might just be that there would be far less divorce in the world today if people truly understood what it means to love another.
As you think about love today, I encourage to not only think about the romantic love that the world is celebrating but also think about the love you have for your family. The love you have for your mother or father or brother or sister or son or daughter. Do you take the time to let them know that you love them. Do they know this because you tell them as well as show it. Don’t allow yourself to fall into the trap of not expressing your love for them. I have been reminded on many occasions by my wife that actions are wonderful but sometimes it’s nice to hear it.
I would also encourage you to think about love for the Church family God has blessed you with. Have you to taken the time to let them know that you love them. Have your actions and your words shown the type of love for them that God expects? Do you recognize just how important this is? Consider what the Bible teaches us in Jn 13:34-35 “34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Our love for one another is what helps the world see that we are following after Christ.
Does the world recognize that you are a follower of Christ? Do they see that because of the love you for your brother and sisters in the Church? Or does the world not know you follow Christ because they do not see the love that Christ expects from those who follow Him?
I encourage today, while the world focuses on what “Love” is that you remember what God says “Love” is. Whose opinion matters more to you?
May the Lord grant you peace and happiness as you consider this precious gift “Love” that He has given you.
