It’s very interesting sometimes how children view their parents. About three weeks ago Jared (my oldest) came to me and asked me if I would have breakfast with him before school. I understood that it was about more than just the breakfast, it was about spending time together. In the past (95% of the time) my wife would get up with him and make his lunch and make sure he got off to school on time. The only time that didn’t happen was when my wife was sick. Clearly Jared had come to rely on “Mom” to make sure that his lunch was made just the way he needed it. So mom gets to be the one who gets up and works hard to make sure her child is ready for the day while “Dad” gets to sit down and relax while having a bowl of cereal.
The serious point behind this post is to remind you that children are a blessing from God and they rely on their parents to both make sure they are taken care of (ie lunch and off to school “Mom”) and you are available just to spend time with them (ie. eating breakfast together “Dad”). Failure to spend time with our children and remind them they are loved can lead to a great deal of heartache in the future. However, spending time with our children can lead to a lifetime of blessings.
May we all continue to take advantage of the time God has given us with our children.
