Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you are struggling and people around you try and help out and you find yourself saying, “You just don’t understand! How can you possibly know how I feel?” When we find ourselves making this kind of statement it is because we feel like those who want to help have never been there so they cannot appreciate our situation and have no right to speak. We are basically saying, “Why should I listen to you? You have never had to go through this.”
While this may be something you feel you can confidently say to someone here on earth, it is not something we can say to Jesus Christ. We should be able to take comfort in the fact the Christ has been there before, He does understand how we feel, and we can trust He has been there and knows what’s best for us. We should take comfort from the words of the Hebrew writer.
This simple message reminds me that while I may not find the grace and comfort I am looking for from others here on earth, I can approach Jesus with my concerns and needs and He will understand and give me the strength to make it through no matter how rough it seems.
May we all be thankful of this great gift of a High Priest who truly does understand our needs because He has been there and He has overcome. He is willing to give us the strength we need to come through as well. All we have to do is seek and ask.
