Just Because They May Say it Doesn’t Make it True

Do you remember growing up and being taught the sayings, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me,” or “I’m rubber you’re glue whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you!” We learn to say these things as a way of recognizing that just because someone has said something mean about us doesn’t make it true and words are just words. As we continue to live our lives it would be good for us to remember this simple life lesson and recognize things we can do when a situation arrives where others may speak ill of us. We can either let their words cripple us or we can be bigger than them and live a life that shows that what they are saying is just not true.

I ran across the following quote from an unknown author that gives some pretty good advice regarding this topic. “If anyone speaks badly of you, live so none will believe it.” This is very good advice and follows right in line with what God’s Word teaches us.

One final thought, We should not evil speaking but us down but rather take comfort from the words of Christ.

May we all continue to stand firm in the faith and live a life pleasing to God no matter what others may say of us.
