Don’t Place a Question Mark Where God Places a Period.

I am sure many if not all of you have heard the phrase listed in the title above.  Whatever your opinion of this idea I want to share something I have been thinking about the last few days which fits in real with this statement.

If you currently have school-aged children living in your home you’ve probably been spending a great deal more time with them than you are used to because of the covid 19 pandemic.  If you have, you may have found yourself feeling some frustration or feeling like they are driving you crazy.  In your mind you may be placing a question mark where God has placed a period in one of the well known passages of the bible,  Ps. 127:3-5

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

I think some people as they spend time with their children and get frustrated often forget that children truly are a gift from God.  It’s almost as if they want to place question marks where God has not placed them.  They would phrase the passage like this;

3 Children are a heritage from the Lord?
The fruit of the womb is a reward?
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth?
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them?
They shall not be ashamed?
They shall speak with their enemies in the gate?

Do you see how different things become when we don’t see the phrases as direct statements but rather questions for us to answer?  We must remember no matter how frustrated our children may make us, (we surely did the same to our parents when we were children) we must remember they are blessing from God and we should be thankful to Him for them each and every day of our lives.
